speech mark icon Another interesting artist is Matthew Ensor. The son of a West Bromwich Albion player who has himself played at semi-professional level, his paintings and assemblages comment ironically on the latter-day deification of footballers, notably in portraits of Andy Cole and Jack Charlton which brilliantly pastiche Russian icon painting. Ensor's work has something of the spirit of early British Pop Art about it and Pop veteran Peter Blake.
